Present Continuous describes actions happening now or around the current time.

The Present Continuous is a verb tense that shows an action happening now.

Rule

    • am/is/are + -ing form (The -ing form is a verb ending in 'ing', like 'eating').

Usage

    • We use Present Continuous to talk about actions happening at the moment of speaking.
    • It's also used for actions that are in progress but not necessarily happening exactly now.
    • Present Continuous can describe plans or arrangements for the near future.

Examples

  • I am studying English now.
  • She is working on a project.
  • They are moving to a new apartment next month.
  • He is not sleeping; he's watching TV.
  • We are having a meeting at 2 PM.
  • It is raining outside.

Common Mistakes

  • Wrong: I am go store. Correct: I am going to the store.
  • Wrong: She study for exam. Correct: She is studying for the exam.
  • Wrong: They be eating dinner. Correct: They are eating dinner.

Tip

To form the Present Continuous, just add '-ing' to the base form of the verb and use am, is, or are before it.
