The Future Continuous describes actions in progress at a specific future time using <strong>will be + present participle</strong>.

The Future Continuous is a verb tense that shows an action that will be in progress at a specific time in the future.

Rule

    • will be + present participle (the -ing form of a verb, like 'eating').

Usage

We use Future Continuous for:

    • actions that will be happening at a specific time in the future, e.g. 'I will be studying at 8pm tonight.' This helps us talk about what we are doing at a certain point.
    • predictions about what will be happening based on current trends, e.g. 'By 2030, electric cars will be becoming more popular.' This helps us make educated guesses.
    • polite questions about someone's plans, e.g. 'What will you be doing tomorrow?' This is a friendly way to ask about future plans.

Examples

    • By next year, I will be working here for five years.
    • At this time tomorrow, will you be having lunch?
    • We will be traveling to Europe next summer.
    • They will be moving to a new apartment next month.
    • At 9am, will she be attending the meeting?

Common Mistakes

    • Wrong: I will study at 8pm tonight. Correct: I will be studying at 8pm tonight.
    • Wrong: What you will do tomorrow? Correct: What will you be doing tomorrow?

Tip

Try replacing 'will be' with 'at' in your mind; if it still makes sense, Future Continuous is likely correct!
