IELTS Reading practice

Open Reading from the side menu (web) or the Home tab (app). There are three ways to practise.

1. Category practice (question types)

Drill one question type at a time, for example Matching Headings, True / False / Not Given or Sentence Completion, using questions from many passages. It is the fastest way to fix a type you keep getting wrong.

1. Choose Reading → Category.
2. Pick a category and click Practice.

2. Section practice (one passage)

Answer the questions for one passage at a time. It builds accuracy and speed without committing to a full hour.

3. Reading mock tests

A full Reading test: 3 passages, 40 questions, 60 minutes, under timed conditions. Pick a test and click Start Test Simulation. If you left a test unfinished, you can Continue where you stopped or start again.

Taking the test

• Passage on the left, questions on the right. Drag the divider to resize them.
• Highlight text. Select words in the passage, then choose Highlight. Use Remove highlight, Clear or Clear All to undo.
• Take notes. Select text and choose Notes to attach a note.
• Move between questions with the numbered bar at the bottom, or Previous Question / Next Question.
• Matching headings and similar questions: drag the option into the gap.
• Time Left is shown at the top. When time runs out, your answers are submitted.

When you've finished, click Submit and confirm. Submitting saves your answers, and you can't change them afterwards.

Tips

• Read the questions before the passage so you know what to scan for.
• Don't spend more than 20 minutes on one passage in a mock test.
• For True / False / Not Given, Not Given means the passage doesn't say it at all.
