The full exam experience, from the headphone and microphone checks through three timed parts to submitting the test.

A PTE mock test is a full-length exam with every task in the official order, timed section by section, and scored on the 10–90 scale.

Choose a test

Open Mock Tests (web) or Full Mock Tests (app). Each test shows its number of questions, its duration and your Attempts and Last score.

  • Start Mock Test: begin a new attempt.
  • Continue: if you have an unfinished attempt, carry on from the question where you stopped. Start New begins again.
  • View Result / Retake: for a test you've finished.

Before the questions (first time only)

  1. Test Overview: the three parts and the time for each.
  2. Test Introduction: how the test works.
  3. Headphone Check: press Play to hear a sample and set your volume.
  4. Microphone Check: record "Testing, testing, one, two, three" and play it back.
  5. Speaking Tips
  6. Personal Introduction: 25 seconds to prepare and 30 to speak. It is not scored.
  7. Ready: click Next to start the scored test.

The three parts

Part Content
1 Speaking and Writing
2 Reading
3 Listening

Each part starts with a screen listing its tasks and time, with a reminder to put your headphones on.

During the test

  • The top-right corner shows the section's time remaining (red in the last 5 minutes) and your place in the part, for example 3 of 37.
  • Each section has its own clock, which starts at the section's first question. When it runs out, the rest of that section is skipped.
  • Click Next to save your answer and move on. You'll be asked Are you sure you want to move on to the next question? An empty answer is skipped and scores zero.
  • You can't go back to an earlier question.
  • Listening questions won't move on until the audio has finished. In speaking questions you can move on once you've started speaking.
  • Answers save in the background. If the connection drops, the test pauses (the clock stops) until the answer is saved. Click Retry when you're back online.

Leaving and coming back

You can close the test and continue later, on any device. Time spent away isn't counted against your section clock.

Submitting

After the last question you'll see You have reached the end of the test. Click Submit Test. Your report is usually ready within a few minutes.
