OET (Occupational English Test) is the English test for healthcare professionals. Practet covers all four sub-tests under real exam conditions.

The four sub-tests

Sub-test What you do Scoring
Listening Healthcare consultations and talks. The audio plays once. Marked instantly
Reading Part A (15 min) and Parts B & C (45 min) on healthcare texts Marked instantly
Writing A letter (usually a referral) based on case notes, 5 min reading + 40 min writing AI-assessed on the six OET criteria
Speaking Clinical role-plays with a patient or relative, played by an AI interlocutor AI-assessed on the linguistic and clinical communication criteria

Your profession

OET Writing and Speaking are profession-specific. Choose your profession during onboarding or later in Edit Profile → Healthcare profession:

Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Veterinary Science, Optometry, Speech Pathology, Podiatry, Dietetics.

The letter tasks and role-play cards you see match the profession you choose.

How OET is scored

Each sub-test gets a score from 0 to 500 and a letter grade:

Grade Score
A 450–500
B 350–440
C+ 300–340
C 200–290
D 100–190
E 0–90

Grade B (350) is what most healthcare registration boards require in each sub-test.
