How AI scoring works and teacher feedback
How writing and speaking are scored, how accurate AI scores are, and how teacher feedback appears on your reports.
What is scored by AI
| Marked instantly (answer key) | Marked by AI |
|---|---|
| IELTS Reading and Listening, PTE Reading and Listening, OET Reading and Listening | IELTS Writing and Speaking, PTE Speaking and Writing, OET Writing and Speaking, Interview Preparation |
For speaking, your recording is converted to text (speech-to-text), and pronunciation is analysed sound by sound. Then your answer is scored against the official criteria of the exam, for example the four IELTS band descriptors or the PTE traits.
How accurate is it?
AI scores follow the same public criteria examiners use and are a strong guide to your level. They are not official results. A certified examiner may score slightly differently, especially near a band boundary. Use them to track progress and find weaknesses, not as a guarantee.
To get the most accurate speaking scores:
- use a headset microphone in a quiet room
- speak at a natural pace and volume
- make sure your recording isn't cut off. Check it plays back fully.
Teacher feedback
If you study through an institution, your teacher can review your answers and add comments. When they do:
- a Teacher Feedback tab appears on the report, next to Score & Analysis
- you may get a notification
Teacher feedback is available on IELTS and PTE reports.
A report didn't finish
If a report says the analysis failed:
- Reload the page. Many reports finish in the background.
- Use the re-analyse option on the report if there is one.
- If it still fails, practise the question again. Contact support if it keeps happening.
