Take a mock interview
The checks before you start, the difference between recorded and live interviews, and what happens during the interview.
A mock interview takes about 10–15 minutes. Use a laptop or desktop with a camera and microphone, in a quiet, well-lit room.
1. Choose your track and start
Open US Visa Interview or CAS Interview and click the start button under Ready for your mock interview?
There are two kinds of interview:
- Recorded Answers: the interviewer plays set questions one at a time, and you record a reply to each.
- Live AI Interview: a spoken, back-and-forth conversation with an AI interviewer that follows up on your answers, with a live transcript. There is a daily limit on live interviews. When you reach it you'll see Daily live interview limit reached.
2. Pre-interview checks
- Interview Credibility Checklist: things that affect how credible you look, as in a real interview (dress, background, eye contact, documents at hand).
- Device & Connection Check: we check your camera, microphone and connection. Answer the sample question and click Start Testing to record a short clip and play it back. The test clip plays only on your device and is never uploaded or stored.
- Passport Verification Required: confirm the details, then click Confirm & Start Interview.
3. During the interview
Recorded Answers
- Each question appears and plays. You get a short preparation time (click Skip Preparation to start sooner), then recording starts on its own with a live timer.
- Answer out loud, just like the real interview. There are no scripts and no retakes mid-question.
- Your answers appear in the Interview Chat as Answered.
Live AI Interview
- Click Join Interview. The interviewer speaks (Interviewer speaking…), and then you answer.
- The conversation appears in the Live transcript.
- Click End to finish early. The interviewer may also end the interview, as a real officer can.
4. Finish
At the end you'll see Your Interview is Complete. Click Get My Results. The report is prepared in a moment (Finalizing your interview report…).
If something goes wrong
- Camera or mic blocked: allow them in your browser (click the camera icon in the address bar), then Retry.
- Saving problem: click Reload Page, and you continue from where you stopped.
