It measures everyday English across the four skills of Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening in a single session of around two hours. The questions are grouped into three parts, and several tasks are integrated, meaning they assess more than one skill at the same time.
PTE Core Sections and Question Types
The Speaking and Writing part includes Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Respond to a Situation, Answer Short Question, Summarize Written Text and Write Email. The Reading part covers Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Choice questions and Re-order Paragraphs. The Listening part includes Summarize Spoken Text, Multiple Choice questions, Fill in the Blanks, Select Missing Word, Highlight Incorrect Words and Write from Dictation.
The number of questions shown above is the average range for each task. The exact count can vary a little between test sessions, but the overall structure stays the same.
