Understanding Integrated Subscores
Instead of providing separate scores for Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing, the Duolingo English Test uses integrated subscores. This means each question type measures two skills simultaneously, closely mimicking how we use language in real life.
The four subscores
- Literacy: Your ability to read and write.
- Comprehension: Your ability to read and listen.
- Conversation: Your ability to listen and speak.
- Production: Your ability to write and speak.
Each subscore is reported on a scale from 10 to 160 in 5-point increments.
Overall Score calculation
Your overall score (also on a 10 to 160 scale) represents your general English proficiency. It is important to note that the overall score is not a simple average of your four subscores. It is calculated independently based on your overall performance across all questions in the test.
How to use this information
If a university requires a high Conversation score, you should focus your practice on question types that map to Conversation, such as "Listen and Speak" or "Listen and Select." Practet helps you target these specific integrated skills to reach your desired subscores.
